Car Tyre Foundation Course: Inverness-shire

Car Tyre Foundation Course: 6 – 8 April 2020

Muir of Ord,  Inverness-shire, Scotland

This is the start of a new self-build in Inverness-shire, Scotland designed by Straw Works. When complete it will be a one and a half storey loadbearing straw house, built on sloping land.  Muir of Ord is a small village about 15 miles North of Inverness.  The land where the house is going to be built is surrounded by woods and on a clear day the views across to Ben Wyvis and over the Moray Firth are lovely.  The soil is stony and sandy whilst down the bottom of the field there is a bit more clay.  The house will be built using straw bales and naturally plastered using clay and lime.

In this first course we will be building with car tyre foundations. Over the 3 days you’ll discover how to use an upcycled material which would otherwise go to land fill, you’ll learn all you need to know about this fantastic alternative for cement-free foundations – and also how to build foundations on a slope.

Rae Parkinson will be teaching on this course. With many years of experience and an outstanding reputation in the field of natural building, Rae ensures course participants have a fun, value packed time.
