Strawbale Building Course, Cornwall

A 5-day strawbale building course in beautiful Constantine, Cornwall.  This course will be to build the straw bale walls of an extension to a renovated stone house.  The course will cover practical aspects of strawbale building including how to dress and customise bales, notching, loadbearing and infill techniques, compression of the wall, and much more! Included in the price is a vegetarian lunch and refreshments.

Salli Gosling will be teaching this course.  Salli is a graduate of the School of Natural Building and has been trained by Barbara Jones and Rae Parkinson.  She is a qualified teacher and has lots of experience of strawbale building. She is also building her own strawbale house! Salli will ensure course participants have a wonderful learning experience.

Course Dates: 2 to 6 June 2021

Location: Near Falmouth, Cornwall

Cost: £325 for a 5 day course. Refreshments & vegetarian lunch included

Times: We will work from 8.45 – 17.00 each day. It is important that everyone arrives on time, as we always begin and end each day together as a group.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING WITH YOU (if you have them, we can provide them if not)

  • Stout work boots, steel toe-caps if possible
  • Work clothes to keep you warm (and dry!)
  • Hat and sun cream
  • Water proof clothing
  • Work gloves
  • Tape measure (important)
  • Lump hammer and claw hammer
  • Sharp knife e.g. Stanley knife (important)
  • Hand saw
  • Axe or bill hook
  • Sharpening tools
  • Paper and pencil
  • Water bottle
  • A pair of wrap round safety glasses

Power tools – if you have any of the following and it is easy for you to bring them, then please do;

  • Petrol hedge clippers
  • Alligator saw
