Gosling House

This 2 storey five bedroom timber and strawbale house in Melbourne, Derbyshire was self-built with contractor help. The semi-rural nature of the site, which sits within The National Forest, meant owners Salli and Des wanted to build with a fabric first approach and utilise natural materials like straw and lime. Salli has completed many of SNaB’s courses and so was set on building her own house from straw.

The round design of the building maximises views onto the south facing garden and creates lovely connections between the internal and external spaces through voids, window opening and roof lights. Natural finishes complete the organic look of the house, with a lime render, areas of timber cladding and timber shingles on the roof.
